The Dampier Peninsula extends north of Broome for some 200 kms to the tip at Cape Leveque. Pristine beaches, red rock cliff edges and crystal clear waters are on offer and are ample reward for the sometimes rough Cape Leveque 4WD road trip.

The Dampier Peninsula is an Aboriginal Reserve made up of a number of small communities.

Sacred Heart Church

Sacred Heart Church is located at Beagle Bay, around 120kms north of Broome. The church was built in 1918 by the Pallotine monks who created a stunning alter out of pearl shell.

Middle Lagoon

Middle Lagoon is a beautiful spot with breath-taking ocean views. Snorkelling, swimming and fishing are all on offer here. The Middle Lagoon turnoff is 21kms past the Beagle Bay turnoff, then another 33kms off from the main road.

Middle Lagoon has a large camping with some powered sites, along with self-contained style accommodaton.

Lombadina

Lombadina provides an opportunity to experience and learn about aboriginal culture as well as whale watching (Jul - Oct) and fishing.

Kooljaman

Kooljaman is an award winning eco-tourism resort 200kms north off Broome, at the very tip of the Dampier Peninsula - Cape Leveque. The area has beautiful unspoilt coastline and red rock formations that light up at sunset.

Fishing seems to be the most popular past-time here, but there are 4WD tag along tours as well as mudcrabbing, snorkelling, and cultural tours from the local aboriginal guides. You can also take scenic flights from here over the Buccaneer Archipelago and the Horizontal Falls.

Kooljaman has a variety of accommodation options, from camping with powered and non-powered sites, beach shelters, mini safari tents, cabins and large safari tents which take advantage of the panoramic views across the ocean. Book in advance as Kooljaman is very popular. They also have Dinkas Restaurant which overlooks Kooljaman's Eastern Beach with spectacular views across the ocean.
