Esperance
Golden Outback
The Esperance region, with a temperate climate all year round, is surrounded by beautiful beaches and pristine coastal landscapes. The region is blessed with many National Parks and is also home to the Recherche Archipelago, consisting of 105 islands and 1,500 islets spread over 270kms of coastline.
Within easy reach of Perth and the surrounding towns of Kalgoorlie and Albany, the Esperance region is becoming a popular destination with ideal conditions for fishing, surfing, sailing, sandboarding, and just relaxing by the sea.
Esperance Attractions
Cape Le Grand National Park
Around 50kms east of Esperance is the Cape Le Grand National Park. Within the park is Lucky Bay with pristine beaches and blue water, and if you are lucky you may just see kangaroos sunbathing on the beach.
Within the park there are a number of walks you can do, ranging from simple return walks of 400 metres, up to full day walks. There are also 2 camping grounds in the park, 1 at Lucky Bay, and the other one at Le Grand Beach. Entrance to the park is $11, and there is also a camping fee is you plan to stay over.
Stokes National Park
Stokes National Park is around 80kms west of Esperance. The National Park is a great place for birdwatching, with at least 29 species of waterbirds have been observed at Stokes Inlet. Stokes Inlet is the most popular spot with tourists, but Fanny Cove, Skippy Rock and Shoal Cape offer attractive coastal scenery, however they are only accessible for 4WD. There are also basic camping facilities (check if they have reopened after a fire) available at Fanny Cove and Skippy Rock.
Cape Arid National Park
The Cape Arid National Park is around 120kms east of Esperance, and features granite headlands, crystal waters and sparkling white sands. If you are a bird watcher, then this park has more than 160 bird species, including the endangered western ground parrot. There are many walks you can do within the park, and these al offer great opportunities to spot the birds. Camping is available in the park at Thomas River and Seal Creek with limited facilities.
Recherche Archipelago
With its more than 100 untouched islands, pure white sands and turquoise water, the Recherche Archipelago is truly a stunning place. There is an abundance of wildlife in the region, including sea eagles, and colonies of sea lions and fur seals, and you can get up close to them on a boat cruise out of Esperance.
If you want to experience the true Archipelago, then Woody Island offers camping, bushwalking, fishing and swimming between September and April.
