The intriguing Horizontal Falls in the Buccaneer Archipelago are the result of the huge tides (up to 11 metres) experienced in the area rushing through two narrow gorges (one is 20 metres wide and the other is 10 metres). The phenomenon, which can reach a height of 4m, is best seen from the air or in a jetboat propelling you through the falls.

Apart from the Horizontal Falls, the pristine Buccaneer Archipelago is stunningly beautiful and made up of around 1,000 mainly uninhabited islands. It is also home to a huge range of wildlife from crocodiles to birds and many varieties of fish.

You can experience the area by air, sea or a bit of both:

Scenic flights over the Horizontal Falls are available from Derby and Cape Leveque on the Dampier Pensinsula.

Half day seaplane tours leave from Broome and Derby and can include either breakfast/lunch on a berth in Talbot Bay, a trip through the falls on a jetboat and the opportunity to explore the surrounding bays.

Overnight tours that extend the half day seaplane tours to include a night on a vessel in the bay are also available out of Broome and Derby.

Cruises of the Buccaneer Archipelago can also be arranged through the Broome and Derby tourist centres.
