Western Australia
Outback Travel Guide
Western Australia covers all of the western part of Australia and covers an area of 2.5 million square kilometres. This makes it Australia's largest state and the second largest subnational entity in the world. Western Australia has a population of approximately 2.2 million people, with 85% of the population living in the south-west corner of the state.
Perth is the capital city of Western Australia, and has a population of around 1.65 million people. This makes it the fourth largest city of Australia, but its population is increasing faster than the national average due to the mining boom.
There are many outback areas to visit in Western Australia, such as the goldfields of Kalgoorlie, the Great Victorian Desert and the Canning Stock Route. But it's most recognised outback destination would be The Kimberley in the far north-western part of the state.
